Del Mar CA—It’s time to see how your homemade wine or brew stacks up to the competition at the Homebrew and Homemade Wine contests at the San Diego County Fair. Entries are now being accepted for both competitions at the San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons|Vons. This is a great chance to pay a low entry fee to have your wine and brew professionally judged and you’ll have the opportunity to taste what the competition poured.
Viva la vino: Amateur winemakers have until March 21 to enter the San Diego County Fair Homemade Wine competition. It’s just $20 per entry, and you’ll compete for medals, ribbons and awards. Winners will be featured at the fair in the Paul Ecke Jr. Garden Show’s Wine Nook exhibit. An awards ceremony and tasting of the wines entered is from 3-5 p.m. April 15 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Winemakers must be 21; competition is not open to professional winemakers or those who have applied for state or federal licensing.
Vino aficionados who enter will also receive an opportunity to purchase discounted tickets to the Toast of the Coast Wine Festival at the fair on June 9. For entry details and to enter online, go to www.sdfair.com/exhibits/homemade-wine or call (858) 792-4207.
Your best brew: The Homebrew competition is celebrating its 30th year and the 2018 Best of Show beer will be brewed and served by Garage Brewing Company. Entries are open until April 13. For just $10 per entry, the Homebrew competition provides a great opportunity to have your beer professionally judged, and you’ll get valuable tasting notes. You’ll also be invited to the awards ceremony where you can taste all the other exhibitor entries. Winners of the competition will be featured in the new Brew N’ Still exhibit at the fair and session five of the San Diego International Beer Festival (SDIBF) at the fair will be dedicated to the homebrewer.
All amateur homebrewers must be at least 21 and cannot be a professional brewer or have applied for state or federal licensing. After judging, exhibitors will be invited to a private awards ceremony and exhibitor tasting from 2-5 p.m. May 20 and have the opportunity to purchase discounted SDIBF tickets. For entry details and to enter online, go to www.sdfair.com/exhibits/homebrew or call (858) 792-4207.
