SDCCU is the current Guinness World Records^® holder for the most paper collected in 24 hours and most paper shredded in 8 hours

San Diego County CA— San Diego County Credit Union^® (SDCCU^®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is offering free shredding services at the following three locations from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 24: La Costa Branch at 7630 Via Campanile, Suite 138 in Carlsbad; Temecula Branch at 31693 Temecula Parkway; and the SDCCU Operations Center at 6545 Sequence Dr. in Mira Mesa.
“The upcoming SDCCU Shred Day is a great way to properly dispose of confidential documents for free to help minimize the risk of fraud and identity theft. With a high prevalence of fraud in recent years, we encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck.
The first 200 people at each location who take advantage of SDCCU’s free shredding services will receive a free gift. The public is invited to bring a maximum of two boxes containing personal and confidential information to have it shredded on the spot at no charge in the parking lot of these three SDCCU locations.
SDCCU began hosting its Free Shred Day events in 2007 and has since collected, shredded and recycled nearly 3.5 million pounds of paper at no charge, saving nearly 30,000 trees (every 120 pounds shredded represents one saved tree).
Last year at the SDCCU Super Shred Event, SDCCU once again became the Guinness World Records^® holder for the most paper collected in a 24-hour period and became the new record holder for most paper shredded in 8 hours. The exciting occasion—held at SDCCU Stadium—helped thousands of people, used 70 trucks and resulted in the collection of a total of 898,931 pounds of paper. SDCCU plans to break that record this year at their next SDCCU Super Shred Event scheduled for June 16, 2018.
