May 3rd Event will Raise Funds to Provide Lifesaving Meals and Services for Vulnerable San Diego Seniors

‘Experience of a Lifetime’ at exclusive Del Mar Country Club; Proceeds to provide 100,000 in meals and services impacting nearly 5,000 vulnerable seniors

Rancho Santa Fe CAServing Seniors will host its fifth annual “Experience of a Lifetime” on Thursday, May 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the exquisite Del Mar Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe. The organization aims to raise $500,000 through this event, which will provide more than 100,000 nutritious meals and lifesaving supportive services to nearly 5,000 low-income and homeless seniors in San Diego County.
Chaired by Serving Seniors’ board members Carole Lindsey and Marcus DiFiore, this year’s event will feature a cocktail reception, gourmet dinner, entertainment and more. Attendees will enjoy mouthwatering hors d’oeuvres made with locally-sourced ingredients while listening to live music and perusing enticing auction items. Live auction items will include exclusive, can’t-be-bought experiences from San Diego music venues, sports teams, country clubs and more!
For the evening’s dining, Del Mar Country Club’s Executive Chef Jonathan Sudar will create an exclusive menu with fine wine pairings inspired by local California cuisine. “I am honored to be once again partnering up with Serving Seniors to provide guests an amazing feast as well as to support the nutrition and health of San Diego seniors living in poverty,” said Chef Sudar.
Serving Seniors serves 2,400 meals a day at nine congregate dining sites and delivers meals directly to more than 500 homebound seniors across San Diego County. More than 85 percent of the organization’s senior clients live below the Federal Poverty Level on less than $1,000 per month and struggle to meet basic needs. Many clients regularly have to choose between paying for medication, rent or their next meal. Serving Seniors’ meal program addresses hunger and food insecurity and meets the unique nutritional needs of older adults.
“We are thrilled to once again come together to not only raise critical funds, but also to shine a bright light on vulnerable seniors and the daily struggles they face,” said Serving Seniors President and CEO Paul Downey. “By attending this memorable gala, guests will be providing meals, healthcare, supportive services, senior-friendly housing and much more for nearly 5,000 seniors right here in San Diego.”
Individual tickets to “Experience of a Lifetime” are $350. Tables of ten are $2,500. Qualcomm and Sempra Energy have generously sponsored the gala. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information please contact experience@servingseniors.org.

About Serving Seniors

Serving Seniors is a nonprofit agency dedicated to helping seniors in poverty live healthy and fulfilling lives. Founded 48 years ago, the organization meets its mission by offering a coordinated wellness model addressing many senior issues under one roof. Through its collaborative partnerships, Serving Seniors is able to provide nutrition, case management, care coordination, mental health services, life-long learning, advocacy and transitional housing for homeless seniors and permanent supportive housing. This safety net of services encourages seniors to live healthier lives by addressing successful aging. As a result, it keeps seniors out of emergency rooms, reduces hospital days and delays and/or eliminates the need for long-term care.
Since its inception, Serving Seniors has served over 11 million meals. Every year, the organization provides nearly 600,000 meals to seniors at 9 congregate dining sites across the county, delivers two meals daily to more than 500 homebound seniors and houses nearly 500 seniors. About 5,000 San Diego seniors look to Serving Seniors annually for support.
The agency has been skillfully led for more than 23 years by president and CEO Paul Downey. Downey is the past chair and two-time appointed commissioner of the California Commission on Aging and past president of the National Association of Nutrition and Aging Services Programs (NANASP). He currently serves on the boards of the American Society on Aging (ASA), the San Diego County Social Services Advisory Board and the Gary and Mary West Senior Dental Center. Serving Seniors has been named a Top Workplace for the last five years by the San Diego Union-Tribune.
