Outdoor gear shop hosts event on May 2 to encourage more people to try a two-wheel commute
San Diego CA—A local outdoor gear shop will treat aspiring bicycle commuters to an informational session full of how-to tips and gear must-haves to help more people kick their car habit—just in time for National Bike Month and Bike to Work Day.
Hosted by ROVE, an outdoor and travel store in Normal Heights, the ROVE Abouts monthly speaker series is a casual gathering in an intimate space with time to connect, learn and dream. On May 2, it will feature lessons learned from experienced bicycle commuter Jamie Hampton.
“We want to break down barriers and introduce inexperienced bicycle riders to a new way of approaching San Diego’s streets,” said Blake Robertson, who owns ROVE with his wife Jenna. “We know that Jamie Hampton, whose has been bicycle commuting in San Diego for almost 15 years, will share helpful riding tips and gear choices to make bicycle commuter fun and easy for everyone.”
Hampton, who leads Mixte Communications by day, is well known as a bicycle commuter and someone whose staff is often seen on two wheels. She’s been recognized by iCommute’s Diamond Award program as a San Diego Commuter of the Year for her dedication to bicycling and using transit to make business meetings all across the county. Her company is always a multi-year award winner of iCommute’s Diamond Awards honoring commuter programs that include education, flexibility, encouragement and support to encourage employees to ditch cars and try other forms of transportation.
In her May 2 presentation, Hampton will share her habits, tips and lessons learned with a heavy emphasis on those that will appeal to new or inexperienced riders. They will be practical tips to help with apparel on and off the bike, meal preparation, packing, finding the right path, essential gear and fitness.
ROVE Abouts starts at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, at Rove in Normal Heights. No ticket or RSVP is required.
