Oceanside CA— MiraCosta College will hold commencement ceremonies this week for the Adult High School Program and the MiraCosta College District.

May 24, 2018: Adult High School Program Graduation

MiraCosta College will celebrate the accomplishments of students graduating from the Adult High School Program on Thursday, May 24, at 6 p.m. in the Concert Hall, Building 2400, located 1 Barnard Drive in Oceanside. Over 130 students have completed the free, college-based high school diploma program.

May 25, 2018: MiraCosta College District Graduation
Approximately 600 of MiraCosta College’s estimated 2,000 graduates will celebrate at the college’s 83rd commencement ceremony, to be held Friday, May 25, at 5 p.m. in front of the Administration Building on the Oceanside Campus, located 1 Barnard Drive. Admission is free, and parking permits are not required.
Graduate Liliana Hernandez will deliver this year’s commencement address. Hernandez, the daughter of immigrants, knows first-hand the challenges of life in America and the promise this country can hold. Born in Oceanside and raised in Vista, Hernandez has experienced homelessness, hunger, and domestic violence. With every poor choice as a teenager, including dropping out of high school, the dream of college seemed further and further away. After years of struggling just to get by, Hernandez renewed her determination to reach her childhood dream of becoming an immigration attorney. She earned her high school degree from Vista Adult Education and began attending MiraCosta College. With the help of MiraCosta’s valuable guidance programs, she was able to balance her personal and work life.
Together Hernandez and MiraCosta College are building a new life for her and her six-year-old daughter. Now Hernandez not only works as a licensed insurance producer for Allstate Insurance, she also runs a small photography business.
This fall she plans to transfer to California State University, San Marcos, where she will earn a bachelor’s degree in communications. After earning her degree, Hernandez plans on attending law school, earn her juris doctorate degree, and see to it that her childhood dream becomes a reality.
