La Jolla CA— The La Jolla Symphony & Chorus (LJS&C) offers a season of choral masterworks providing an attractive musical outlet for experienced vocalists. The Chorus will hold open auditions on Saturday, August 24th and Wednesday, September 25th at Conrad Prebys Music Center on the UC San Diego campus. Audition appointments can be made online at www.lajollasymphony.com.
Choral repertoire for the 2019-2020 season includes Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem, John Adam’s Harmonium, and Gioachino Rossini’s Stabat Mater. The chorus rehearses Wednesday evenings at UC San Diego.
The Chorus is prepared by LJS&C Choral Director Dr. Ruben Valenzuela, who shares conducting duties with LJS&C Music Director Steven Schick.
The auditions are for all voice parts and will consist of vocalization exercises, musicianship assessment, and singing a brief (one minute) prepared piece. Previous choral singing experience is helpful, but not mandatory. All singers with a serious commitment to music are encouraged to audition. Membership is open to community singers as well as UC San Diego faculty, staff and students.
The La Jolla Symphony & Chorus, San Diego’s longest-running and largest community orchestra and chorus, is a non-profit organization celebrating its 65th season. The 100-person orchestra and 100-person chorus perform groundbreaking orchestral and choral music along with traditional masterworks from the classical repertoire in Mandeville Auditorium on the UC San Diego campus. LJS&C is an affiliate of UC San Diego.
