San Diego CA— On September 12, 2019, Junior Achievement (JA) of San Diego County will host the first of two Centennial Events, recognizing the founding of the nationwide organization in 1919 in Massachusetts, and commemorating more than one million students served locally in San Diego since 1960. JA will welcome more than 250 business executives and donors to its unique, experiential campus, 4756 Mission Gorge Place, San Diego, CA 92120 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for the Centennial Reception, honoring the people who have helped to build San Diego’s economy while highlighting the next generation of business leaders.
The following week, on September 20th, more than 120 golfers will participate in the JA Golf Classic at The Fairmount Grand Del Mar. Proceeds from both events will go directly to empower San Diego youth. Through industry partnerships and 5,000+ volunteers that help make learning relevant to the “real world”, signature programs (e.g. Mission Fed Finance Park, The McGrath Family BizTown, and the JA Company Program presented by Ottercares Foundation) impacted and inspired more than 35,500 students in 2018-2019. Nearly half of the students served represented Title 1 schools and households in low-income communities. Overall, JA programs reach 361 schools within 33 of the 42 districts across San Diego County.
JA San Diego continues to empower young people to own their future success through Common Core-aligned programs that provide hands-on experiences to thousands of students annually.
