Oceanside CA— The Oceanside Public Library, in partnership with the North County LGBTQ Center and in honor of World AIDS Day, will have an introductory discussion and screening of a powerful documentary about the early AIDS crisis and the efforts of activist groups like ACT UP and TAG. This free, public event will be held in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms, 330 N. Coast Highway, at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30.
The book selection for this year’s “One Book, One San Diego” is The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai. The purpose of the program is to encourage residents to join together in the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. The program also encourages participation in related events, discussions of the ideas raised in the featured books, and examination of how these ideas connect with our daily lives and local communities. The Great Believers is a historical novel about the terrors and tragedies of the AIDS epidemic and its repercussions, told through a story about friendship and redemption in the face of tragedy and loss, set in 1980s Chicago and contemporary Paris. Copies of the book will be available for giveaway at the event as supplies last.
