Pala CA—A member of the Pala Rez Radio volunteer family has passed. Pala tribal member, Doreen Kolb walked on this past weekend. Known to her friends and radio listeners as “Doots”, Doreen along with her daughter Darlene Vega hosted “Back in the Day With Doots and Dar.”
The show, which began as a summer lark “to get mom out of the house” has now aired on Rez Radio for eight years and is also carried by an FM station in Northern California near the Round Valley reservation. It features multi-generational stories from Doots, Dar and their guests about growing up on this and other reservations with music of the era to match each story.
Annual live remote broadcasts of Back in the Day at the San Diego County Fair never failed to draw a crowd that always seemed to end up dancing. Services for Doreen are this Friday and Saturday in Pala. Details at the Rez Radio Facebook page and at www.RezRadio.FM . The future of the show is still being considered by Darlene.
For now, Rez Radio will air repeats of “Back in the Day” Mondays at 6p and Fridays at 11a. We’d like to hear your thoughts on the future of “Back in the Day”. All of our love to the family.
Rez Radio 91.3 (KPRI) is owned and operated by the Pala Band of Mission Indians and can be streamed live on iHeartRadio, TuneIn.com, Radio Garden and on smart speakers by asking your device to “play KPRI”. We also maintain a free public listen line for those without data service at 712 775 5748
