San Diego CA— Second Chance is expanding their Job Readiness Training (JRT) Program, due to record unemployment in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The nonprofit’s JRT program, now held virtually, is a four week program that is offered at no cost to participants. The program includes 160 hours of intensive instruction in which they break down personal barriers to employment, develop new skills, create résumés, and master interviewing techniques. JRT offers virtual group exercises, supplemented by one-on-one Zoom sessions with staff who help identify potential employment opportunities.
The non-profit has helped formerly incarcerated adults find work for nearly 30 years. Since the beginning of San Diego’s COVID-19 crisis, 100 percent of graduates have placed into full-time employment within a week of completing the program, meaning every Job Readiness Program graduate has a job. Due to this impressive success rate, Second Chance is excited to expand the program to help those who lost their job during the pandemic.
“Our graduates have been able to secure jobs because they were ready for change. They needed guidance and confidence to put themselves back into our community. Our program provides them that change,” says Izzy Moreno, Business Services Representative.
The four-week training is hosted Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., during which participants acquire critical skills needed to gain and retain employment, such as time and resource management, a professional attitude, and teamwork. Classes are available to anyone over 18 who needs assistance.
