Longtime supporter highlights the organization’s mission on new HBO Max show with Selena Gomez
San Diego CA— Feeding San Diego is proud to be a highlighted charity on the new HBO Max show Selena + Chef, which stars Selena Gomez in conversation with master chefs. Longtime Feeding San Diego supporter Angelo Sosa, who was runner-up on season seven of the Bravo reality television show Top Chef and recently appeared on the series’ Top Chef All Stars spinoff, selected the organization as the food-related charity for his episode of the show. During the episode, the charismatic chef whips up a dish with actress and award-winning recording artist, culminating in the announcement of a $10,000 donation to the charity of the chef’s choice, Feeding San Diego.
“Since I moved to San Diego, it has been a priority for me to integrate myself within the community. My job is to care for people, to feed and nourish them. I consider fighting hunger part of my job now,” said Chef Angelo Sosa. “It’s an incredible opportunity for me to bring new awareness to Feeding San Diego’s extremely worthwhile mission to end hunger.”
The show is billed as an “unapologetically authentic cookalong” and features Selena Gomez being joined remotely by a different master chef in each episode. Together, they tackle cuisines of every variety, share invaluable tips and tricks, and deal with everything from smoking ovens to missing ingredients. Chef Sosa, who was founding executive chef of Death by Tequila in Encinitas until he left earlier this year, joins other notable chefs as series guests, including Nancy Silverton, Ludo Lefebvre, Tanya Holland and Roy Choi. He is currently the culinary director at Small Barn, a winery and restaurant in Old Town Temecula housed in a historic structure. His menu is focused on providing a warm gathering place in the wine country.
“Chef Sosa is an incredible supporter of Feeding San Diego, both with his time and funds. We are grateful for his dedication to our mission during a time when hunger is at an all-time high due to the pandemic,” said Gavon Morris, Feeding San Diego Chief Philanthropy Officer. “As our community continues to come together during this challenging time, local celebrity chefs are joining forces to help end hunger throughout San Diego County.”
