San Diego CA— Home Start, a San Diego nonprofit organization whose mission is to assure the safety and resiliency of children by strengthening families and their communities, continues to make great progress on its Miracle on 34th Street project despite the challenges caused by the ongoing pandemic. The organization has been named the recipient of a $150,000 grant from The JEM Project, a grant making foundation headquartered in San Diego. The money will go towards Home Start’s Miracle on 34th Street Campaign which has enabled Home Start to expand its Maternity Housing Program with the purchase of a 5-unit property in the Normal Heights neighborhood.
“We are so grateful for this partnership with the JEM Project and for its contribution of $150,000 to the Miracle on 34th Street Campaign,” said Laura Tancredi-Baese, LCSW, CEO of Home Start. “We are truly aligned on the critical vision of empowering young women to reach their greatest potential. Together we are changing the life trajectory of these deserving families and future generations to come.”
Home Start’s Maternity Housing Program provides safe and secure supportive housing with transitional living services for pregnant or parenting young women (ages 18-24) who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Jessica Manning, The JEM Project founder, stated, “We are delighted to have met Laura and the Home Start team. Home Start meets the priorities of The JEM Project because its programs support the development and needs of moms and kids.”
The JEM Project Executive Director, Leah Burroughs, noted that, “Home Start provides hope for multiple generations so they can be healthy, happy, and able to learn. Home Start provides homes, not just housing, and a community that supports one another through shared life experiences.”
