Founded by AleSmith Brewing Company owners Peter and Vicky Zien, Anvil of Hope spent their first year in business providing immediate, tangible items to families in need

This year, Anvil of Hope directs its focus to providing more long-term solutions like career workshops, skills training and mentoring opportunities

San Diego CA— Newly established local nonprofit, Anvil of Hope, has big plans this year to support and heal community members across San Diego. The nonprofit is the brainchild of AleSmith Brewing Company owners, Vicky and Peter Zien, who share a commitment to helping people in need. Offering assistance to those experiencing homelessness, at-risk youth and community members facing hardships, Anvil of Hope aims to provide long-term, sustainable change.
The nonprofit launched in March of 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic started to escalate. In response to the growing crisis, Anvil of Hope provided immediate relief to affected families in need, including the distribution of hygiene products and meals. In December of 2020, the organization hosted its inaugural virtual Giving Tree Gala, which exceeded expectations for a first year nonprofit and raised over $20,000 and helped feed over 200 families.
This year, the nonprofit aims to create an even bigger impact by focusing more on long term methods of support. By providing tools like career guidance, housing assistance and training scholarships, Anvil of Hope is ready to put its values into actionable change. You can help make a difference by becoming a donor, an Anvil Angel Volunteer, or becoming an Angel Partner (a supporting business).
WHAT’S NEXT: Anvil of Hope will be hosting the first of a series of free career building workshops featuring some of San Diego’s most prominent business leaders. The first workshop will be held on Thursday, March 4. Participants will learn skills to help them land promising entry level jobs and receive resumé and career tips from executives at companies like the San Diego Padres, San Diego Gas & Electric and Manpower.
“We’re here to help those in need in our community, but most importantly, we want to help others help themselves. We are providing career counseling, jobs and skills training, financial assistance towards education and mentoring for our youth, “says Anvil of Hope co-founder and President Vicky Zien. “There’s a lot of work to do, but we look forward to becoming an essential entity in San Diego that helps others live fuller, more vibrant lives.”
With its one-year anniversary on March 25, Anvil of Hope is also gearing up to celebrate via a month-long Walk of Hope that serves to not only celebrate the organization’s milestone, but also support small businesses around town.
