San Diego CA— San Diego County Gun Owners (SDCGO), a political action committee promoting Second Amendment rights, will present a free online educational webinar on how to obtain a concealed-carry weapon (CCW) permit from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 13. The public is invited to attend.
Topics will include the CCW legal process through the San Diego County Sheriffs Dept., how to write a “good cause” statement and resources available from SDCGO. Presenters will be Michael Schwartz, SDCGO executive director, and Wendy Hauffen, SDCGO chief operating officer. Links to access to the webinar will be available on the SDCGO website, www.sandiegocountygunowners.com, as well as the SDCGO Facebook page, www.facebook.com/SDCGO.
SDCGO said existing state law gives clear requirements for those seeking a CCW. Applicants are required to pass a criminal background check, complete a state-mandated curriculum on firearms safety and law, pay a fee and state a reason on the “good cause” portion of the permit application. “Good cause” statements can include “self defense,” “personal protection” or other reasons. The number of CCW holders in San Diego County exceeds 5,000, an increase from about 1,100 in 2017.
Founded in 2015, San Diego County Gun Owners is a registered political action committee (FPPC ID #1379388) and advocacy organization focused on organizing the gun industry and community and protecting the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment right to bear arms. With a membership of more than 2,500 individuals, the PAC provides news and information on new gun laws and Second Amendment advocacy. Its sponsored events include gun safety classes, small gun shows, sporting clay shoots, social gatherings and pistol, rifle and shotgun experiences taught by professional instructors.
Based on its membership size, SDCGO is believed to be San Diego’s largest registered political action committee (PAC), as well as San Diego’s largest civil rights organization, according to Michael Schwartz, SDCGO executive director. SDCGO features a diverse and inclusive membership with representatives the LGBT, Latino, African American, Asian and Pacific Islander communities. While every U.S. state has a Second Amendment PAC, along with several nationwide gun rights PACs, the SDCGO is believed to be the America’s first, strictly local, countywide Second Amendment advocacy organization.
