San Diego CA— To continue to provide food assistance in “hunger hot spots” across San Diego County, Feeding San Diego‘s Together Tour is adding a site in Escondido starting Friday, July 16. Continuing on, the free food distribution in Escondido will take place on the first Friday of the month through December.
“We are still in this together and Feeding San Diego will remain a presence in the community as certain populations continue to struggle and work toward recovery,” said Dan Shea, CEO of Feeding San Diego. “We continue to identify hunger hot spots where food assistance will provide relief to members of the community.”
Feeding San Diego continues to address the rippling effects caused by the pandemic, and introduced ongoing large-scale food distributions to serve the elevated number of San Diegans in crisis earlier this year. These distributions are in addition to the hundreds of regular distributions held each month with partners around the county. As steady need has been demonstrated, the organization will continue operating these large-scale distributions through the end of the year.
The Together Tour series of large-scale food distributions has been making its way across San Diego County to serve those facing hunger and has already served over 56,000 people and distributed over 835,550 pounds of food since its inception in February. Currently, there are sites operating monthly in Carlsbad, Chula Vista, San Marcos, San Diego, and Sorrento Valley.
What: Drive-through distribution where volunteers place food directly in the trunk. All attendees receive at least 50 pounds of food, including fresh produce, dry goods, and a frozen meat protein. Those who would like to attend can register via the link here.
