San Diego CA— The San Diego Women’s Foundation (SDWF) has named Michelle Candland as President of the Board of Directors. Ms. Candland has been an SDWF member since 2016 and has served on the Board of Directors since 2018. Ms. Candland is also a Founding Board Member and President of the Board of the Monarch Project, the nonprofit established to support the students at Monarch School. Monarch is a unique public/private partnership established to support, nurture, and educate homeless and at-risk youth in San Diego.
In 2004, Ms. Candland was the recipient of the Art of Giving Award as Community Volunteer of the Year by the San Diego Magazine Charitable Events Registry as well as the Director of the Year, Corporate Governance Not-For-Profit, by the Corporate Directors Association.
She has been an active member of the Rotary Club of San Diego since 1999, the 4th largest club in the world with 500 members. Rotary International has 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs around the world and the San Diego club was the 33rd club to be formed. Ms. Candland served on the Board and had the honor of serving as club President 2014-2015 as well as the Chair of the club Foundation in 2015-2016. She was also selected as one of 10 Rotary women across the country as a “Woman of Action” and presented the award at the White House. After retiring as Managing Director of CBRE in 2004, she wrote her first book “Common Threads: Women Who Weave Tribulation into Triumph.”
Ms. Candland currently serves on the Board for the National Conflict Resolution Center (NCRC), a national organization established to promote civility, conflict resolution, restorative justice, diversity and inclusion by providing mediation services, training programs and community services.
She hopes to use her time as SDWF President to expand the organization’s visibility and connections in the community and is looking forward to using SDWF’s platform and public presence to spotlight the incredible work of SDWF’s nonprofit partners and the many causes she is passionate about.
