Encinitas CA— On November 6, 2021 at the historic La Paloma Theatre in Encinitas, Core Hydration will present the world premiere of Exposure X, a feature-length skate video featuring the world’s top female skateboarders. The winners of Exposure’s video part competition will be highlighted during the show and awarded a $50,000 prize purse. With previously unreleased footage from over 200 skaters from over 20 countries, Exposure X will truly highlight the world’s most progressive and innovative female-identifying skateboarders of 2021.
Since its inception 10 years ago, Exposure’s annual women’s benefit event has grown into the largest skateboarding event for amateur and professional female skateboarders, opening access, visibility and growth to skateboarding as a whole. Typically, the event is a live showcase featuring vert, street and park disciplines. Last year, Exposure shifted gears to honor core skateboarding’s more valuable performance indicator- the video part.

Jordyn Barratt

“Making video parts is clearly where women and other non-traditional skaters need to go in the coming years,” said Kristen Ebeling, Executive Director of Skate Like a Girl, “and Exposure used COVID to help our community take a step in the right direction.” Last year, 230 girls from 23 different countries submitted curated compilations of their best skateboarding. “It was super rad to see how Exposure 2020 went down,” said Jordyn Barrat, who competed for team USA in skateboarding’s inaugural Olympic competition. “I was overwhelmed to see how many girls were able to get out there and put together amazing parts. So many girls and so many rippers and so many new faces – it brought a lot of happiness to a lot of skateboarders around the world!” Barrat is only one example of girls who got their start at Exposure, she competed in her first Exposure event as an amateur in 2012 and worked her way up the pro podium.
This year, participants across age divisions will work for top honors by submitting individual, two minute videos for Independent Best Video Part Transition and Santa Cruz Best Video Part Street. Krux Best Crew will offer a division that is focused on 3+ individuals coming together to show progression alongside fun and camaraderie. The Impala Skate Rising Award will showcase skaters who work to make a difference in their communities. Those with standout tricks will submit clips to be considered for the Independent Best Trick Street and Skatelite Best Trick Park Awards. Thanks to Vans, international winners will have support in traveling to the premiere.
The event will be judged by legendary female skaters Elissa Steamer, Vanessa Torres, Jaime Reyes, Alex White and Amelia Brodka.
Exposure Skate was founded ten years ago by Lesli Cohen and Olympic Skateboarder Amelia Brodka. Their mission of empowering women and girls through skateboarding is reiterated through the donation of the event’s proceeds to Community Resource Center’s Domestic Violence Shelter.
Exposure wants to thank Core Hydration, Vans, Krux, Independent, Santa Cruz, Skatelite, Impala, Bronson, Ricta, Mob and Dickies.
