San Diego CA— Decorated Marine Corps veteran Oscar Gomez is bringing years of nonprofit operations management experience to Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego as the organization’s new chief operations officer.
Having spent over a decade managing operations and comprehensive training programs for Marines and sailors around the world and across various specialties in the United States Marine Corps, Gomez was driven to work in the public service sector after leaving active duty. He earned dual master’s degrees in social work and public administration from the University of Southern California in pursuit of his passion to provide necessary resources to communities in need.
In his most recent role, Gomez was the deputy director of Head Start, Early Head Start and Early Head Start Childcare partnerships at the Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty (MAAC). Charged with providing administrative oversight to the 369 staff members working at 21 centers, 21 family childcare homes, and six partner locations that served 1,903 children and their families in San Diego County, he directed daily operations for key service teams and managed a $33.5 million annual budget.
“Oscar’s unique blend of operations management experience and nonprofit administration is a natural fit for the COO role at San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House,” said Chuck Day, president and CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. “His dedication, experience and service to our country and the community is both admirable and valuable as he steps in to lead our operations and continue efforts to provide a ‘home away from home’ for families with a hospitalized child.”
The addition of Gomez as chief operations officer will foster increased operational efficiency, ensuring families will have the meals, services and comfort they need to feel at home. San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House provides lodging, meals, emotional support and family day services at no cost to over 15,000 families annually, allowing them to support their child through a medical crisis without adding financial strain.
“The organization’s mission and its service to families in need energizes my personal passions and I’m thrilled to join the leadership team to help further the organization’s reach and enhance its ability to uplift this special community,” said Oscar Gomez, chief operations officer of Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego.
