I think Measure K could be spelled “Kronyism” by some, HA! Cronyism is the literal opposite of true Democracy, is it not?
It can be very dangerous indeed.
It has been said that to control the money is to control all things…….James A. Garfield, 20th President of the United States. He was assassinated after six months into holding that office. Ironic is it not?
It has also been said that “absolute power corrupts absolutely”……..
John Dalberg-Acton
Between 1837 and 1869 he was known as Sir John Dalberg-Acton, 8th Baronet. He is perhaps best known for the remark, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men…”, which he made in a letter to an Anglican bishop.
I am not implying that we have any such problems in our City Government at this time. But I believe accordingly that cronyism is real and can eventually lead to such problems as defined here in this Wikipedia spot below.
I also believe accordingly it is best to not allow even a tiny crack to appear in our rights, the right of WE THE PEOPLE to vote!
I am sure elements of the City Council think this Measure K which they put on the ballot would improve our City.
I believe however, it is a foolish idea for WE THE PEOPLE to give up our oversight control of these two offices by giving up our right to a vote on who does the job.
