Jewish Family Service Receives Grant to Provide Transportation to Low-income Breast Cancer Patients
San Diego CA— Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) has been awarded a $5,000 grant by the San Diego Professionals Against Cancer (SDPAC), a group of volunteers dedicated to raising money to support local nonprofits fighting against cancer, to support breast cancer patients in need.
Through its partnership with Susan G. Komen, JFS’s breast cancer patient care managers work together with low-income, underserved breast cancer patients to determine their needs, provide guidance and support, and help connect them with valuable resources.
“One of the biggest challenges for our breast cancer clients is a lack of transportation,” said JFS CEO Michael Hopkins. “Many patients report not being able to get to medical appointments because they are too sick to drive themselves or take public transit. The SDPAC’s grant helps continue our efforts to support those patients in need.”
With the funds, JFS will be able to provide more than 380 one-way rides to 150 breast cancer patients whose lives depend on receiving medical treatments.
