Oceanside CA— Jim Estrada, a nationally recognized pioneer in ethnic marketing communications with more than 40 years of public relations experience, will lead a discussion about his new book, The ABCs and Ñ of America’s Cultural Evolution, on November 19, 3:30 p.m. in Room 3601 at MiraCosta College, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. The book provides readers the basics necessary to improve their knowledge and cultural awareness about an important segment of our changing multicultural society: Hispanics, Latinos, and mestizos (a mix of indigenous and Spanish-speaking Europeans).
Estrada’s collection of essays explains how similar histories and cultures have allowed members of a diverse, non-European ethnic group to survive and grow under two of the greatest world powers of their respective times: Spain and the USA. Written in an easy-to-read journalistic style, it provides a synopsis of 500 years of cultural evolution.
Estrada is a Southern California native and is nationally known for his expertise in the fields of communications, advertising, journalism, marketing, and public relations. In 1992, he founded Estrada Communications Group (ECG), a family-owned and operated agency located in Austin, TX, that provides clients with strategic counsel related to general and ethnic segments of the U.S. population. ECG has counseled many of the nation’s most recognized corporations and public, nonprofit clients.
Also a former television news journalist and award-winning documentary film producer, Estrada is an advocate of cultural relevance/competence in media. He currently serves on the board of directors of the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education and is a member of the Advisory Council of the University of Texas Libraries. He attended San Diego State University, Boston College, and Harvard University.
The ABCs and Ñ of America’s Cultural Evolution is a veteran communicator’s perspective of 500 years of cultural evolution by the America’s mestizos—most of today’s 52 million U.S. Hispanics and Latinos. This collection of essays is a primer on the largest and fastest growing consumer, employee, student, taxpayer, and voter segments in the USA.
The ABCs and Ñ of America’s Cultural Evolution focuses on a variety of issues—from Latino history, contributions and debunking of media stereotypes, to their growing influence in the USA—essential to creating awareness of their increasing cultural influence on mainstream society.
