Interested elementary schools throughout San Diego County may sign up to receive a mixed flat of twelve vegetable and herb seedlings, just in time for spring planting.
Schools must preregister with the RCD in order to receive their plants. The registration form can be found at: https://resourceconserverationdistrict.formstack.com/forms/plantgiveaway_2016. Plants are given away on a first come, first served basis, so schools are encouraged to sign up early.
The scheduled pick up dates and locations are:
Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 3 to 5 pm:
- Olivewood Gardens, 2505 N Ave., National City 91950
- SD County Office of Education, 6401 Linda Vista Road, San Diego 92111

“School gardens provide a fun, hands-on way to teach children about healthy eating,” says Sheryl Landrum, Executive Director of the RCD. “With childhood obesity on the rise, more and more schools are making the commitment to create and maintain school gardens. This plant giveaway will help hundreds of schools get a jump start on their spring planting,” she added.
