imaginative early childhood educational experiences combined with high quality care to children between the ages of three months and five years old to prepared them for elementary school and beyond. The artfully designed centers also offer after school care, tutoring and summer camp in The Clubhouse for children ages five to twelve. In addition, the Oceanside center has developed a collaborative partnership with other local agencies to establish a lab school environment to provide on-the-job training to low-income job seekers who wish to become highly skilled and licensed early education teachers.
“This is a great day for the City of Oceanside,” said the City of Oceanside’s Mayor Jim Wood, who attended the groundbreaking. “The Children’s Paradise partnership is beneficial to the entire community, the Oceanside Plaza and most important to the children of Oceanside. We are very proud to be standing here today.”
“The support we have had from the City of Oceanside and our new neighbors is amazing,” said Julie Lowen, Chief Executive Officer of Children’s Paradise Preschool and Infant Center. “We are very happy to be expanding into Oceanside and begin providing early learning services so that more children in the area can enter kindergarten prepared and ready to learn.”
Serving all of Oceanside including Camp Pendleton, the 13,000 square foot early learning center will enhance learning and development throughout. Classrooms will feature warm color pallets, natural light and age appropriate toys and games. Reclaimed and natural woods and environmentally friendly products are also being used. A spacious, 20,000 square foot outdoor play yard with safe, park-like equipment will allow children to exercise, use their imaginations and create amazing adventures to advance their growth and development. Further demolition of the building and parking lot began immediately following the groundbreaking. The preschool and infant center is expected to be completed and open this fall.
The San Diego County Child Care and Development Planning Council has ranked three of the City of Oceanside’s four zip codes as priority one (the highest level) in terms of the need for childcare. In Oceanside, there are 15,490 children between the ages of zero and five years old. However, there are fewer than 3,900 spaces in licensed child care facilities. Head Start and Early Head Start Community Needs Assessment by MACC found that North County San Diego is in critical need of more infant care and that the region needs more full-time, subsidized center-based and alternative payment slots, as well as more high-quality early learning environments. Children’s Paradise is a participant in the Quality Preschool Initiative, which is funded by First 5 San Diego and managed by the San Diego County Office of Education. Children’s Paradise has received the highest possible score in the preschool performance rating system used by the First 5 San Diego Quality Preschool Initiative at its three current locations and expects the same for Oceanside. The preschool and infant center has a variety programs or partnerships available to assist low income and military families in obtaining low or no weekly tuition assistance for their children.
Children’s Paradise in Oceanside will have 212 spaces available for children and it is likely that all the spaces will fill when it opens. Registration and tuition assistance packages are currently being accepted and priority will be given by the date of registration. For more information or to register, please call 760-433-3800.
