Oceanside CA— Joe Maak, CEO of Pride Resource Partners LLC, has created an endowed scholarship at MiraCosta College. Students eligible for the scholarship include members of the LGBTQIA community, identify as trans*, or are active allies to the LGBTQIA or trans* communities. Endowed scholarships are significant in that they last in perpetuity.
Maak, through his company, donated $16,500 toward an endowed scholarship fund. The MiraCosta College Foundation matched his donation 2-to-1 through its Campaign-for-Opportunity-Scholarships Matching-Funds program. In other words, for every two dollars donated, the foundation will match that gift with one dollar. The Joe Maak & Pride Resource Partners LLC Scholarship fund now totals $25,000. Over time, this endowed scholarship fund will generate, on average, $1,000 annually.
Pride Resource Partners LLC is a Certified Minority-Owned Business Enterprise providing outsourced facilities planning and management, construction planning and management, engineering, and other highly technical consulting services. Founder and CEO Maak is an active member of San Diego’s LGBTQIA community with a special interest in preventing bullying. He funded an endowed scholarship at MiraCosta in support of a community of students who, in addition to the typical academic stress felt by college students, experience high rates of mental health issues, homelessness and substance abuse, and for whom institutional support is not always present or obvious.
