Oceanside CA— Two North County educational institutions are among San Diego Foundation grant recipients aimed at supporting students in the areas of food security, housing and technological support.
Nearly $100,000 total went between the foundations of MiraCosta College in Oceanside and California State University San Marcos, the foundation announced in July.
The MiraCosta College Foundation received $50,000 to address the technology needs of low-income community college students, according to the San Diego Foundation’s announcement. The CSU San Marcos Foundation received $47,691 to help stock the campus ASI Cougar Pantry, support 30 students with access to campus emergency housing, and assist 50 students with reliable transportation.
“Due to the lingering impact of the pandemic, local college students need our help more than ever,” San Diego Foundation President and CEO Mark Stuart said in the group’s news release. “When we invest in college students, we’re investing in their personal and professional growth, while supporting a strong regional workforce where we all have the opportunity to succeed.”
In addition to MiraCosta College and CSU San Marcos, eight other nonprofits and educational institutions received grants of various sizes to address these issues.
