Oceanside CA- Construction is wrapping up on the new Alex Road Skate park. The 22,000 sq ft. park is the City’s fifth skate park and scheduled to open August 30, 2013 at 3:00pm.
Marcos Perez, with California Skate Parks, has been working the construction since it started in January. He has been a part of the construction of, over, 20 other skate parks, since 1995 and is impressed by the ‘Grindline Design’ company’s layout. ” The park has a lot of elements,” said Perez, “It has the bowls and the street elements all worked in together.” Construction has been smooth at the Alex Rd site. “The weather has been perfect” Perez said. He was part of a team building a skate park in Queens, NY when hurricane Sandy hit the area.
The park has two bowls, the deepest at 10 feet and are surrounded by two snake runs. Restroom construction begins on August 19 and Perez says the park will be landscaped and 99% complete by the 24th. “Anticipation is high for the parks opening” said Perez, “There are skaters stopping at the site every day to see when it will open.”
Friends of Michael Prince Johnson, a respected skater in Oceanside, who passed away in July, started an online petition to have the park named in memory of their friend.
The park is at the NW corner of Alex Rd and Foussat Rd, next to the San Luis Rey River Bike Trail.
