Oceanside CA- Classic ‘woodies’ from the Wavecrest Woodie Club made the trek from Encinitas to Oceanside, Sunday morning with a stop on the strand. Most of the classics are local but one couple, Dave and Joanne Carter traveled 3 days and 1350 plus miles from Surrey B.C. Canada. “We just purchased the car a little while ago” said Joanne, “My husband did a search online to see if there were any woodie events and here we are.” Dave Carter wanted to find a surfboard to go with their classic wagon and he found one on Craigslist. “I have the board rack so I bought this old John Kies surfboard ” said Carter. As luck would have it, the Carters ran into the local shaper, John Kies, in Encinitas and they are returning home with a nice old board autographed by the shaper himself.
