Oceanside CA- A brush fire on Camp Pendleton has scorched over 120 acres in the Lake O’Neill area at the center of the base. Over 225 firefighters from Camp Pendleton, Orange County, Oceanside, Carlsbad and North County Fire along with a DC-10, a C-130, six air tankers and three strike teams, are currently battling the fire which has forced the evacuation of base housing in O’Neill Heights. A red flag warning is in effect for San Diego County but the high winds that were expected, along the coast, have not been as strong as predicted. Thick, dark smoke from the fire is visible throughout North County and is drifting westward over the ocean.
