Oceanside CA- The tall ship, Hawaiian Chieftain, is docked at the Oceanside Harbor now through January 9. Public tours are available for a suggested donation of $3.00 and two hour excursions are available on the weekend for $43.00 a person. The walk-on tours are self-guided and will give visitors the opportunity to explore the ship and speak to crew members about their educational programs and travels.
The Hawaiian Chieftain is based in Grays Harbor, Washington. The ship, built of steel in Hawaii in 1988 and originally designed for cargo trade among the Hawaiian Islands by naval architect Raymond H. Richards. The design for Hawaiian Chieftain was influenced by the early colonial passenger and coastal packets that traded among Atlantic coastal cities and towns.
Hours for the tours are 4:00-5:00PM Tuesday-Friday and 10:00AM-1:00PM on weekends.
