Oceanside CA- Hospice of the North Coast’s (HNC’s) Pacifica House hospice residence has earned full accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), now known as the Joint Commission. The Joint Commission is an independent nonprofit that accredits U.S. healthcare organizations and programs that meet certain performance standards. According to the Commission, “Accreditation is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality.”
HNC received Joint Commission accreditation as a hospice agency in 2013. The new accreditation, awarded in February 2014, extends certification to HNC’s new Pacifica House. HNC began welcoming terminally ill patients from throughout the north coastal region to this six-suite residence with 24/7 care at 4411 Park Drive in Carlsbad on December 16, 2013.
HNC Executive Director Nerice Kaufman says, “We are so pleased to have earned accreditation, which to date has been awarded to only five of the 25 hospices in San Diego County. The Joint Commission and HNC pursue a similar commitment to continuously improve healthcare for the public. Clients who use our full slate of services, including Pacifica House, can be assured of experiencing, as the Joint Commission states, the safest, highest-quality and best-value care.”
Hospice of the North Coast is based in Carlsbad but serves clients all along the north coastal region, including Camp Pendleton and Oceanside. To learn more about HNC’s professional industry affiliations, about Pacifica House and all programs and services, visit www.hospicenorthcoast.org.

About Hospice of the North Coast

Nonprofit Hospice of the North Coast was established in 1980 to fill the need for comprehensive, compassionate hospice care in North County San Diego. Since its inception, it has grown in services, staff and clients. It currently provides a full spectrum of programs to terminally ill clients and their families, including anticipatory and post-death bereavement support, as well as a Pathways Program for those with a declining chronic disease. To fulfill its goal of maintaining dignity, comfort and highest quality of life for those it serves, regardless of ability to pay, HNC hosts fundraising events, operates a family support camp and resale shop, and maintains a cadre of volunteers. HNC’s Pacifica House in-patient residential facility in Carlsbad is the first such freestanding facility in North County. HNC and Scripps Health have entered into an exclusive agreement to discuss an affiliation between HNC and Scripps that would benefit both organizations’ hospice programs, their clients and the community as a whole.
