SDSO DUI Checkpoint Results, Poway Checkpoint Set for Saturday

Oceanside CA-(SDSO) The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has released the results of their St. Patrick’s Day, DUI, saturation patrols.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Escondido Police Department, La Mesa Police Department and UCSD Police Department conducted the DUI Saturation Patrols during the evening of St. Patrick’s Day in the following cities; Del Mar, Encinitas, Escondido, Imperial Beach, La Mesa, Poway San Diego, San Marcos, Solana Beach, and Vista. Of the fourteen Deputies and Officers working that night, they made 121 traffic stops. They evaluated 35 drivers for driving under the influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs. There were four people arrested for DUI where Alcohol was involved and two people were arrested for DUI where Alcohol and Drugs were involved. There were 32 citations issues for various traffic violations. There were seven drivers cited for driving without a driver’s license. The focus of the operation was the apprehension of suspects who were determined to be operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and/or under the influence of drugs.
Saturday, March 29, from 7:00 PM through Sunday, March 30, at 3:00 AM, deputies from the Sheriff’s Poway Station will be conducting a DUI sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint in Poway. The checkpoint will consist of DUI trained deputies who will be evaluating drivers’ abilities to safely operate motor vehicles.
The primary intent of this checkpoint is to educate the public of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, while serving as a deterrent to potentially impaired drivers. Checkpoints like these also provide an important governmental service by promoting public safety. The focus of the operation will be the apprehension of drivers determined to be operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and / or under the influence of drugs or driving while unlicensed or with a suspended driver’s license. This checkpoint is funded through the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
