San Marcos CA- A bicyclist was killed in collision with a cement truck in San Marcos on Thursday, April 10 at approximately 9:30 a.m. The Sheriff’s Communication center received a call of a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Las Posas Road in the city of San Marcos. The preliminary investigation revealed the following information.
A white cement truck driven by a 47 year old male was heading northbound on S. Las Posas Road in the number 3 lane. As per witnesses, the truck stopped at the red light for a few seconds before making a right turn onto eastbound Grand Avenue. As the cement truck entered the intersection, a 22 year old male who was riding a bicycle northbound on S. Las Posas Road also entered the intersection.
Witnesses stated the bicyclist may have entered the intersection against the red light and was struck by the truck, which caused the bicyclist to be knocked to the ground where the rear wheels of the cement truck may have run over the bicyclist. The bicyclist succumbed from his injuries at the scene.
The investigation and cause of the collision is on-going and being conducted by the San Marcos Traffic Unit.
