Tobacco Sting in Vista

For the second time in two weeks, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has conducted a minor decoy tobacco buy operation in Vista. The department’s Vista COPPS Unit conducted the operation at tobacco retailers throughout the city of Vista. In all, 46 retailers were visited during the detail. No arrests were made in the latest sting.
On March 27th the same unit conducted a sting in which 33 retailers were visited. One arrest was made for furnishing tobacco products to a minor at the Stater Bros. Market, 1451 N. Santa Fe Avenue. The clerk was cited and released at the scene with their written promise to appear in court. Tobacco retailers were randomly selected in an effort to ensure city-wide compliance with tobacco laws related to minors. The ultimate goal of these proactive operations is to reduce the likelihood of minors gaining access to tobacco products.
