Oceanside CA- The City of Oceansides’, Green Oceanside campaign, held its inaugural Donate-First Day. Residents donated gently used items such as clothes, household goods, toys, furniture and e-waste. Food was also collected for local food banks. The donated items went to local non-profits and charities. Military and senior citizens with valid ID were invited to pick up remaining donated items, for free, during the last hour of the event.
“It’s not as busy as we had hoped but it’s the first one” said Tori Baird co-founder of HirePatriots.com. Hire Patriots and Veterans Green Projects teamed up to collect electronics , which included printers, televisions, computers even an old ceiling fan, during the event. The proceeds from the e-waste, the two groups collected, go to help veterans and their families with expenses and find work.
Items dropped off during the Donate-First Day were distributed charities who were on site for the event; Goodwill, Community Resource Center, Assistance League of North Coast, Oceanside Firefighter Association, Solutions for Change, Rancho Coastal Humane Society, Veterans Green E-Waste, The Hill Street Country Club, North County Food Bank and Donate Don’t Dump.
