Model Railroad Museum Preview at Heritage Park

train_museum01_osidenewsOceanside CA- The North County Model Railroad Society (NCMRS) unveiled its ambitious plan for a new model railroad museum at Heritage Park yesterday. The NCMRS has partnered with the City of Oceanside’s Parks and Recreation Division to offer model train enthusiasts a place to view and operate NCMRS’ unique model train exhibit.

“This is such a beautiful setting and this park is such an asset to Oceanside.” said Eileen Turk, Parks and Recreation Division Manager ” I hope this museum brings new interest to Hereitage Park.”
The design for the layout of the model trains and mini cities involves multiple layers. “Because we only have about 1,000 square feet to work with, We are hoping to go with two, maybe three levels here” said Tom “Papa” Ashton with the NCMRS’ The old location on Oceanside Boulevard had approximately 1,800 square feet on which the Society built a grand display of mountains and towns for the trains to travel through.

The new home for the NCMRS at Heritage Park is located 220 Peyri Road. During construction, there is a “Trains for Kids” model set-up that allows children to view and operate the trains. This temporary exhibit is open to the public on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
