Oceanside CA – As part of Earth Month celebrations, the City of Oceanside has launched its new Green Oceanside mobile app. This new tool will help keep the public informed of environmental news and events and provide opportunities to learn more about sustainability and conservation. The app can be downloaded soon, for free, at the Android Play Store by searching “Green Oceanside” or [Link] and will be available as early as today from the Apple store. For more information, visit www.greenoceanside.org
“This new, free exciting tool allows anyone in our community to have updated environmental information in the palm of their hands,” said Colleen Foster, Solid Waste and Recycling Management Analyst, City of Oceanside. “By launching the Green Oceanside mobile app, we hope to engage the community. The app allows the City to receive information and photos, which strengthens the dialogue we have with residents, schools, businesses and visitors.”
The new mobile app features sections on various Green Oceanside topics and programs including the Road to Zero Waste, Water Conservation, Storm-water Prevention and Renewable Energy. Also included is a listing of environmental classes offered around the community, an eco-friendly events calendar and other valuable environmental resources and tips. Contact information for each program and maps with directions to events also are included.
“We strive to make it easy and convenient for the public to find information about Green Oceanside,” continues Foster. “By bringing program details in a format that is mobile, updated in real time and easily accessible, we can make it that much easier for the community to learn about conservation and implement programs that will benefit their home or business.”
Updated news and City social media posts are presented in real-time through RSS feeds from the City’s Twitter and Facebook accounts. Additionally, there is a feature for the community to submit requests for information and services, as well as fun tool for the public to submit photos of their favorite Oceanside environmental and conservation moments.
“There is something for everyone on the Green Oceanside app,” Foster concludes. “Whether you are a teacher that wants a quick summary of city conservation programs to share with your class, a business owner that wants to request a waste audit, a homeowner that wants to attend a class on composting or recycling or any community member that wants to know where and when the next conservation event is taking place—it’s all here!”
