OCAF Anniversary to be Celebrated at Spring Fest

Oceanside CA- Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation will hold a special fundraiser “Spring Fest” Sunday, May 18, 2014, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at The Kern Gardens, home of Oceanside City Councilmember Jerry and Blake Kern in Oceanside, CA. This is OCAF’s first ever fundraiser that benefits itself as an entire organization instead of its particular projects as it had been traditionally done over the years. “OCAF is a project-oriented organization”, said in his statement its Vice President, Dmitriy Demidov. Arts patrons of North County San Diego might remember the biggest project OCAF has ever undertaken was the creation of Oceanside Museum of Art. This event is held in connection with OCAF’s big anniversary this year. It is turning 25 years.
For a quarter of a century Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation / OCAF has pledged its support of the arts community. (As outlined at http://www.ocaf.info/history-of-ocaf one can see that if it wasn’t for Mayor Bagley, who in 1989 came up with an idea of forming Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation, there would be no Oceanside Museum of Art, annual Oceanside Music Festival, Oceanside International Film Festival, Write On Oceanside!, or Oceanside Days of Art right now. …Nor there would be Oceanside Arts Commission as OCAF proposed to create and even helped charter it.) The organization was established June 7, 1989 and since that day it has supported and promoted fine arts in Oceanside and its surrounding communities. OCAF began with the creation of Oceanside Museum of Art, which is now thriving, independent, and well-respected. Next, it developed Oceanside Days of Art, which is in its 22nd year this April, as one of the premier fine arts-only festivals.
OCAF happily took over the American Songbook / Gershwin Festival, expanded it and it is now in its 13 year this October as Oceanside Music Festival. Partnering with Oceanside Public Library and the Oceanside Friends of the Library, it has added Write On Oceanside!, an Oceanside-authors’-only book fair to its lineup of annual events. The 4th annual literary event will be coming up in July. Finally OCAF rounded out with Oceanside International Film Festival, 4th year this August.
Over the past 25 years OCAF has provided venues for student, avocational, and professional visual and performing artists to showcase and celebrate their gifts. Through Oceanside Days of Arts and Oceanside Music Fest it has given out several thousand dollars in scholarships to talented, deserving school students from throughout North County San Diego. Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation now asks general public to help it continue serving our local arts community by supporting its very first fundraiser.
Attendees of Spring Fest will enjoy live entertainment, champagne & hors d’oeuvres, delicious coffees paired with decadent chocolates from So Rich Chocolates, a local high-end confection maker. Past winners of OCAF Performing Arts Scholarships, recipients of Oceanside Days of Art student awards, and former members of OCAF Board will herald the vibrant history and charitable background of the organization at this event. Raffle prizes include pieces by local artists, tickets to 13th annual OMFest, autographed books from “Write On, Oceanside” published authors, VIP passes to Oceanside International Film Festival, season subscriptions for Oceanside Theatre Company at The Brooks, etc.
Admission is $40.00 for single ticket in advance, $70.00 per couple in advance, or $50 each at the door. For tickets please call 760-433-3632, email ocaf@ocaf.info, mail checks to OCAF, P.O. Box 3054, Oceanside, CA 92051, or purchase online at http://www.ocaf.info/
