Oceanside Events for Earth Month 2014

Oceanside CA- The City of Oceanside ‘Green Oceanside Team’ and North County community partners have a month full of free events honoring the environment, this April, Earth Month 2014.

Donate-First Day – April 5

El Corazon Senior Center, 3302 Senior Center Drive
The City of Oceanside is hosting Donate-First Day from 10 am to 3 pm on April 5, 2014. Instead of throwing away unwanted items such as clothing, appliances, electronic waste, household goods and furniture, donate them on April 5. Local non-profits and charities will join the Green Oceanside team at the El Corazon Senior Center during this event to collect your items and distribute them to people in need. There will also be local food banks on hand to collect healthy food donations. For more information visit their website [Link]

California Friendly Landscape Contest- April 7, 2014

Share your success and experience converting the lawn areas of your property to a California-Friendly landscape. Just submit 4 or 5 photos of your yard, and share with us any advice, problems, or shortcuts you learned along the way. Water use reduction is a key judging criteria. Top prize is $250. Master Composter Series – El Corazon Compost Facility

Would you like to become a Compost Ambassador to your community? The Master Composter Series is open to Oceanside residents interested in educating the community about the techniques and benefits of local and residential composting. Farmers and Sunset Markets – April 24 at Downtown Oceanside

The City of Oceanside has partnered with MainStreet Oceanside to get the Farmers and Sunset Markets on the Road to Zero Waste. Join us on Thursday, April 24 as the Markets take the next step to get rid of plastic shopping bags and Styrofoam! The Farmers Market is held from 9 am to 1 pm and full of wonderful local produce. From 5 to 9 pm. the Sunset Market brings the addition of eclectic merchandise, food and live entertainment.

Loma Alta Creek Cleanup- April 26 at Loma Alta Creek

Join community volunteers on April 26 from 9 am to 12 pm to help remove trash and debris from Loma Alta Creek. Volunteers can choose from several sites and will receive cleanup supplies, refreshments and community service hours.

Used Oil Filter Exchange Events – April 26 at O’Reilly Auto Parts on Mission Avenue

Recycling used oil and oil filters helps protect our waterways and ocean from pollution. Let the City of Oceanside help you take care of your car and our environment. Bring up to two used oil filters and receive up to two new oil filters FREE! Saturday, April 26 at O’Reilly Auto Parts, 3661 Mission Avenue from 10 am to 2 pm.

Earth Festival! April 27 in Downtown Oceanside, Pier View Way & Tremont Street

Grab the family for North County’s largest Earth Day celebration! Located in downtown Oceanside, the Earth Festival has free and exciting attractions for everyone! With even more booths, you’ll enjoy the Children’s Eco-Zone, environmentally-geared booths, delicious food and dazzling entertainment. Be sure to check out the Vintage Market, Green Home Improvement area and a Water-Friendly plant sale all at North County’s Earth Festival on Sunday, April 27 from 10 am to 5 pm. The Earth Festival will feature a home improvement section focused on water conservation practices that can be implemented in homes and landscapes. Vendors specializing in garden rock and California-friendly plants will be featured along with a spotlight on participants and winners in our California Friendly Landscape Contest. Celebrate Mother Earth North County Style!

California Friendly Plant Fair and Sale- May 31, 2014 at Home Depot on 5755 Mission Ave.

Join the City of Oceanside Green Team along with local plant experts at Home Depot for a fun-filled morning focused on low water-use plants. There will be guidance on plant selection and design. Selected California Friendly plants will be up to 50% off for one day only. Lots of prizes, giveaways and children’ activities. Free to the public.
