Oceanside CA- Join Green Oceanside during the month of April for Earth Month 2014. Earth Month 2014 is a month-long celebration full of fun, free events sponsored by the City of Oceanside and its North County community partners. Some of this year’s events include, Create to Educate Performance Art Contest Showcase on April 25th, Loma Alta Creek Clean Up, Used Oil Filter Exchange and a Build Your Own Compost Bin Workshop on April 26th and the North County Earth Festival on April 27th. Come see Oceanside students in grades 1-12 on Friday, April 25th at the historic Star Theater during the Create to Educate Performance Showcase. In partnership with Coastal Music Studios, students will showcase their musical and theatrical talents as they entertain and educate the audience on environmental issues. Come early and enjoy a lobby reception from 6 to 7 p.m. with the Showcase beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Students who would like to participate in the contest can go to www.greenoceanside.org for details. The deadline to submit an entry is Friday, April 18, 2014 by 5 p.m.
On Saturday, April 26th, Earth Month 2014 offers several events:
Loma Alta Creek Clean Up – From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. volunteers can help remove trash and debris from Loma Alta Creek. Volunteers can select from three inland and two coastal locations. Cleanup supplies and refreshments will be provided. For more information and to register, www.creektobay.org.
Used Oil Filter Exchange – A free oil filter exchange event will be held at O’Reilly Auto Parts at 3661 Mission Ave. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oceanside residents can recycle up to two used oil filters and receive two new oil filters for free.
Build Your Own Compost Bin Workshop – This workshop will guide participants through the process of building a compost bin by using repurposed items from home. The workshop starts at 1 p.m. at the El Corazon Senior Center. To register, visit www.elcorazoncompostfacility.com.
Largest North County Earth Festival in North County
Finally, the largest North County Earth Festival will be held in downtown Oceanside on Sunday, April 27th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Earth Festival has exciting attractions for everyone including a vintage market, green home improvement area, rock climbing wall, great entertainment and a water-friendly plant sale. Also the Festival will include a Children’s Eco-Zone with an assortment of Earth friendly crafts including an area to make your own recycled instrument and be a part of the children’s recycled instrument parade. Admission to the Earth Festival is free.
