Oceanside CA- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is well aware of the community’s concern for persons Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Escondido Police Department, San Diego Police Department, and UCSD Police Department conducted DUI Saturation Patrols during the Cinco de Mayo weekend.
The saturation patrols were operational from Saturday, May 3rd through Monday, May 5th, from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. The saturation patrols were conducted in the cities of Del Mar, Encinitas, Escondido, La Jolla, San Diego, San Marcos, Solana Beach, and Vista. During the operation eighteen deputies and officers made a combined 169 traffic stops. They evaluated 38 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Of those evaluated 12 people were arrested for DUI where alcohol was involved and 1 person was arrested for possession of drugs. There were 30 citations issued for various traffic violations.
Of the citations issued 3 drivers were cited for driving without a driver’s license and 3 for driving on a suspended driver’s license. The focus of the operation was the apprehension of suspects who were determined to be operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and/or under the influence of drugs.
These DUI saturation patrols were funded by a grant through the California Office of Traffic Safety. The Office of Traffic Safety and local law enforcement urge drivers to “Report Drunk Drivers. Call 911.”
