San Diego County CA- Valley Center deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence in Valley Center. When the victim returned home, he noticed a black Nissan pick-up parked in his driveway and called the Sheriff’s department.
While deputies were en route to the location, the vehicle was observed driving away. Deputies followed the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to yield and a traffic pursuit ensued. The pursuit headed south on Valley Center Grade toward Escondido at a high rate of speed. Escondido Police joined the pursuit and successfully deployed a spike strip at the bottom of the grade. The vehicle continued on Valley parkway with a deflated front tire but eventually turned into a Mobile home park at 2700 E. Valley Parkway. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Sheriff Deputies, K-9’s, ASTREA and Escondido police set up a perimeter around the mobile home park. After a lengthy and extensive search, the suspect was not located. A preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle had recently been stolen and that the victim may have interrupted a burglary at his residence.
The Sheriff’s Auto Theft Unit will be handling the follow-up investigation and processing the vehicle for evidence. The suspect identification is unknown at this time.
