San Diego County CA– On June 12, 2014, the San Diego Sheriff’s Department Court Services Bureau Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the city of San Diego which led to the arrest of a suspected prolific tagger.
The investigation began on April 25, 2014, when Court Services Deputy Carl Gregory noticed fresh graffiti of a moniker tagged at several locations including inside the San Diego Superior Courthouse. Deputy Gregory used the Graffiti Tracker System to document the graffiti and check for other related cases. He found that the San Diego Police Department had arrested 18-year old Francisco Canseco and was investigating over 60 cases of graffiti involving the same moniker. Canseco had tagged the courtroom in which he was being prosecuted for vandalism.
As a result of Deputy Gregory’s initial investigation and the follow up investigation, Detective Mark Milton obtained a search warrant for Canseco’s residence. During the execution of the search warrant more evidence was found supporting the courthouse vandalism case and Canseco was arrested on five new felony counts of graffiti vandalism.
