Suspect Arrested in Vehicular Assault

La Mesa– A suspect has been arrested in the vehicular assault which occurred in La Mesa on Monday. The victim in this case has been identified as 26-year-old Jorge Alberto-Rocha Osuna, a resident of National City. He remains on life support at Sharp Memorial Hospital.
The suspect has been identified as Darius Watkins-Risberg (D.O.B. 2-1-95), a 19-year-old resident of Spring Valley. Watkins-Risberg returned to the McDonalds Monday afternoon and voluntarily went to the Lemon Grove Sheriff’s station with investigators. He was subsequently arrested and will be booked into the San Diego Central Jail one charge of Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
On Monday, June 16, 2014, Jorge Alberto-Rocha Osuna’s vehicle was in the drive-thru lane of a McDonalds restaurant in unincorporated La Mesa waiting for a food order. Two vehicles pulled in behind the Osuna’s vehicle. A man exited one of the two vehicles and started banging on the windows of the restaurant and on the victim’s vehicle.
Two men got out of the victim’s vehicle and confronted the man who was banging on their car. The men got into an argument which then turned into a fight.
After the fight broke up, the two men got back into their vehicle and drove to their residence in the 3600 block of Avocado Village Court. The two other vehicles showed up at the complex and started revving their engines and squealing their tires in the driveway. One of the vehicles drove at the victim, who was on foot in the complex driveway. The vehicle swerved at the victim but did not hit him. The second vehicle swerved at the victim and also missed him, but then backed up and struck the victim, pinning him up against the building. After Osuna was struck, both vehicles fled the scene.
Osuna sustained life threatening injuries and is currently on life support at Sharp Memorial Hospital. The Sheriff’s Homicide Detail, Crime Laboratory, and Rancho San Diego Sheriff’s Station detectives are conducting the investigation.
