Oceanside CA– The eight-day Oceanside International Film Festival will begin its Red Carpet Welcome And Opening Evening August 3rd with greetings from OIFF’s organizational committee and Celebration of “Junior” Seau’s Life for what would have been his 45 birthday in connection with his alma mater Oceanside High School. The grand opening ceremony will take place at Star Theatre, 402 North Coast Hwy, O’side, CA 92054. Pat and Glenda Kimbrel will address the audience on behalf of Oceanside High School Alumni And Foundation. In charge of the foundation, they will be making a speech just before the screening of documentary “The Legacy of Oceanside High School” by KOCT, which includes interviews with “Junior” Seau. The history of OHS, the oldest high school in Oceanside, stretches for over 100 years. In 1906 it opened under the name of Oceanside-Carlsbad High School in the two upstairs rooms of the existing Grammar School located on the present site of Oceanside High School with 20 students.
The three-fold vision of OHS Foundation has preservation of the school’s past and promoting of its future as the main goal. First, their mission is to recognize, encourage and support the students and staff at Oceanside High School. Second, to maintain the Oceanside High School archives in the school library to preserve the legacy of Oceanside High School. And third, to manage and maintain the Oceanside High School Hall of Fame recognizing past Oceanside High School graduates and their local, national and/or international accomplishments. Its 9th annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in October, 2014. The Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made significant achievements and contributions in academics, business, the arts, community service, public service, and athletics.
