Encinitas CA– On Sunday, July 6th, at about 11:56 a.m. A 37-year-old male was riding his 2002 Suzuki GSX 1300 motorcycle southbound in the 1400 block of South Coast HWY 101, at about 30 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. At about the same time, an 18- year-old male driver seated in his newly purchased 1990 Volvo 240, parked facing southbound on the west curb line. The driver entered the southbound traffic lane immediately in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle rider had no opportunity to stop and collided with the right front wheel of the Volvo.
The rider was ejected and skidded about 12 feet on the asphaltic-concrete surface, on the right side of his helmet, before coming to an uncontrolled point of rest, face down on the asphaltic-concrete about 50 feet from the point of impact.
The un-identified rider was admitted to the intensive care unit where he is under the care of a trauma surgeon for multiple broken ribs and lacerations to internal organs. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
