Oceanside CA– The Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect through early Friday morning as a large swell from tropical storm Marie will continue to produce large surf, strong rip currents and strong longshore currents today. Minor coastal flooding is possible in Orange County during high tide.
Surf from 6 to 8 feet is forecast at the Orange County beaches where spectators watched surfers riding 10-12 foot waves, yesterday, at the Wedge in Huntington Beach. Today, occasionally larger sets of 10 feet and even higher surf will break at the Wedge.
Surf heights will be generally less than 7 feet in San Diego County, however, rip currents and longshore currents will be particularly strong. The surf will continue to subside gradually Friday and Saturday.
Surf and timing of waves 4 to 6 feet with the highest surf north of Oceanside. Strong rip currents and strong longshore currents will create hazardous swimming and surfing conditions.
A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when threats such as strong rip currents, elevated surf heights, minor tidal overflow, or lightning are possible at local beaches. Obey posted warning signs and flags and talk to a lifeguard before swimming. Use caution when in or near the water and always swim near a lifeguard.
