Oceanside CA– This morning, August 20, 2014 at approximately 10:30, Oceanside Police Department dispatchers received a call regarding explosives at an address in the 600 block of Garfield. Officers arrived and determined the following.
The house was a vacant residence. The owner had hired a crew to clean the residence. The crew found three sticks of what they believed to be dynamite. They secured the residence and notified the San Diego County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad. Approximately 16 residences were evacuated. The owner guessed the dynamite may have been in the residence for as long as 10 years.
The Bomb Squad determined the materials were explosive. They took the sticks of dynamite as well as dynamite cord and Gel Max and will destroy them. No one was injured and the evacuation was lifted.
