San Marcos CA– Friday night, August 22,2014, deputies from the San Marcos Traffic Unit conducted a D.U.I checkpoint in the city of San Marcos. The checkpoint was set up in the 800 block of West San Marcos Boulevard. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for Deputies and the public.
This D.U.I/Driver’s License checkpoint lowers D.U.I deaths and injuries. A major component of these checkpoints is the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired bring about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the D.U.I enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

In addition, there were 3 vehicles impounded for various violations and 11 citations were issued for various violations including driving without a license, driving on a suspended license, possession of Marijuana in a vehicle.

After Races Saturation Patrol

Del Mar CA– Deputies from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department with Police Officers from San Diego Police Department, SDSU Police Department, and UC San Diego Police Department, were conducting DUI Enforcement Patrols to crackdown on drunk driving in an effort to lower deaths and injuries in and around the Del Mar Race Track and after the evening entertainment that was held at the race track.
The AVOID Agencies had seven teams of deputies and officers who conduct 70 traffic stops, where 17 people were evaluated for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and three people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Four drivers were cited for driving without a driver’s license. There were eight additional traffic citations issued and two vehicles were impounded.
The “Zero Tolerance” DUI Saturation Patrols were targeting those who still don’t heed the message to designate a sober driver before their celebrations begins. Funding for this program is through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
