Oceanside CA– On Wednesday, August 20, 2014, Oceanside Police School Resource Officer Justin Romano and San Diego County Probation Officer Claudia Romano delivered a 2 hour-long presentation to local college students. As part of the students Juvenile Justice Class, Criminal Justice Instructor Matt Lyons from Central Texas College arranged for both officers to speak to the students about their respective jobs and their roles as they deal with Juvenile Offenders.
School Resource Officer (SRO) Justin Romano is a 9-year veteran of the Oceanside Police Department and former San Diego County Probation Officer. He is currently assigned to the police department’s SRO Unit and works daily with high school students.

Probation Officer Claudia Romano is a 9-year veteran of the San Diego County Probation Department and she is assigned to the Extradition Unit where she travels throughout California and the United States extraditing juvenile offenders back to San Diego County, California.
The students, who are from the local Central Texas College – Satellite campus located at the nearby Camp Pendleton, were given the opportunity to learn first hand how the each agency deals with juveniles, the Juvenile Courts System, and what happens to a offenders once they are introduced into the system. Additionally, they learned more about the various diversion programs to curb recidivism in juvenile offenders and what it takes to be a School Resource Police officer and or a Juvenile Probation Officer.
