Carlsbad CA– Thursday night, August 7, 2014, at approximately 11:20 pm, Carlsbad Fire and Police responded with Sheriff’s Rail Enforcement deputies to a train versus pedestrian collision in Carlsbad. The incident on the railroad tracks occurred at mile post marker 229.1, which is near the intersection of Grand Avenue and State Street, in the city of Carlsbad.
A 22 year-old male pedestrian was struck by a northbound BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) freight train. According to witnesses, as the train was approaching the location, the victim attempted to traverse the railroad tracks and was struck. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The grade crossing warning system was activated and properly functioning at the time of the incident. The Sheriff’s Railroad Enforcement Unit will be handling the investigation.
